On the morning of October 31, Gao Shangren, a first-level inspector from the Science and Technology Development Center of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and Zhang Jiawei, head of the Certification Management Department, along with their delegation, visited Consmos Group. Accompanied by relevant officials from the Shandong Provincial Forestry and Grassland Department and Linyi City, they conducted a special research visit focusing on key topics such as the implementation of forest certification and the realization of ecological product value. The visit aimed to build a bridge for gaining an in-depth understanding of the experiences and demands of wood industry enterprises in certification practices. As a benchmark enterprise in Linyi's wood industry, Consmos Group's explorations in forest certification, brand building, and international market expansion became key areas of focus for the research team.

As soon as the research team entered Consmos Group, they were drawn to the certification information board at the entrance. From international FSC forest certification, European CE certification, and U.S. TSCA certification, to EU EUTR certification, U.S. CARB/EPA certification, and ISO international standardization certification—various subsidiaries of Consmos Group, such as Consmos Wood and Consmos Import & Export, have obtained numerous internationally recognized certifications well-known in the wood industry.

The research team specifically inquired about the timber traceability mechanism—one of the core requirements of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. Zhang Shaolong, Chairman of Consmos Group, provided an on-site explanation, stating that since obtaining FSC certification, the company has established a dual system of "raw material traceability + full-process quality control." Not only does this ensure compliance in timber sourcing through FSC certification, but the company has also established long-term strategic partnerships with over a hundred high-quality local factories in Linyi. By deploying dedicated quality control personnel, uniformly implementing international certification standards, and digitally managing production progress, Consmos has achieved end-to-end coordination from raw log procurement to finished product export.
"For 15 years, we have consistently adhered to integrity as our foundation, implementing strict quality control and shortening payment cycles in our supply chain management. This has strengthened and solidified our partnerships with suppliers. Such a model of mutual trust not only ensures a stable supply of certified raw materials but also reduces overall supply chain costs," Zhang explained. His presentation gave the research team a clearer understanding of how the company deeply integrates certification requirements with supply chain management.

Regarding the balance between international certification standards and production costs, Zhang Shaolong stated that although the annual certification process requires an investment of over 200,000 RMB, each internationally recognized certification corresponds to the entry requirements of specific markets. For instance, CARB certification targets formaldehyde emission standards for California, USA, while FSC certification serves as a "passport" to enter the European eco-friendly building materials market.
To manage certification costs, the company employs strategies such as scaling up production, pursuing technological innovation, and centrally applying for multiple certifications in bulk. This allows the cost to be amortized across long-term orders. Currently, the group's annual export value remains stable at 1 billion RMB, with products reaching 127 countries and regions. This data underscores the role certifications play in supporting the company's international market expansion.
During the discussion, Zhang noted that the certification process is also a learning journey for the entire team, enhancing their understanding of both the products and the diverse market access rules across different regions. As the first AEO-certified enterprise in Linyi's wood industry, the group's "CONSMOS" brand has completed trademark registration in over 40 countries. It was just honored as a "Famous Cross-border E-commerce Enterprise of Shandong Province" in October 2025. Zhang emphasized that it is precisely through their keen grasp of international standards that the company has been able to maintain steady export growth amidst the complex global trade environment.

How can certifications enhance product added value and brand influence? The new products launched by Consmos Group at the 136th Canton Fair, including all-birch speaker panels, anti-termite boards, and flame-retardant panels, are all high-value-added products developed based on FSC certification and market demand. These four new products were selected for the Canton Fair's official new product release event and recommended to global buyers.
At the recently concluded 138th Canton Fair, Consmos Group's branded booth, themed in "vibrant orange and fresh green" (reflecting the low-carbon environmental concept), attracted a large number of buyers. "Certification is not a 'burden' but an endorsement of brand trust," said Zhang Shaolong.
In December 2024, Xue Feng, Member of the Standing Committee and Secretary-General of the Linyi Municipal Party Committee, led a delegation to visit the company and affirmed its approach of "using certification to improve quality and leveraging the brand to expand markets." He recognized that Consmos has driven the transformation and upgrading of the local wood industry's upstream and downstream supply chains in Linyi through its foreign trade business.

In 2015, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China and the National Forestry and Grassland Administration jointly issued the "Forest Certification Rules," integrating the China Forest Certification Council (CFCC) system with international certification schemes such as PEFC and FSC under a unified framework. This played a pivotal role in globalizing China’s forest certification standards and enabling Chinese enterprises to access international markets through CFCC.
Gao Shangren expressed his expectations for Consmos Group, urging it to align with national industrial development strategies, actively participate in promoting CFCC, and enhance the global reputation of the CFCC certification system in the international wood industry. He emphasized the goal of making international clients adopt Chinese standards and establishing CFCC as a powerful force in the global forest certification landscape.
Zhang Shaolong responded that, as an active participant in the forest certification system, the company is fully committed to responding to the call of the state and relevant authorities. While promoting Chinese products, Consmos is also dedicated to advancing Chinese standards, particularly the CFCC forest certification system, which is closely linked to the company’s core business. He stated that the company would leverage this research visit to mobilize relevant departments for focused research, swift action, and targeted breakthroughs.
Transforming forest certification from a "market access threshold" into a "competitive advantage" not only aligns with the goal of realizing the value of ecological products but also sets a replicable example for the industry. The research team highly praised Consmos Group’s practical experience, noting that they would carefully summarize the company’s insights and suggestions to further refine the forest certification system and optimize policy support. This, in turn, would help more wood industry enterprises enhance their competitiveness through certification.

This research visit served not only as an assessment of Consmos Group's forest certification practices but also as a significant impetus for promoting high-quality development in Linyi's wood industry. With over three decades of development history and an entire industrial chain exceeding 300 billion RMB in output value, Consmos Group's practices reflect the transformation direction of the sector.
In September 2025, Chairman Zhang Shaolong was invited to participate in the 10th World Wood-Based Panel Conference, where he shared the company's experience in the "Going Global" themed forum. The conference's theme, "Whole-Chain Resonance, Quality Transformation," strongly aligned with the "Certification Empowering Industrial Chains" concept highlighted during the National Forestry and Grassland Administration's research visit.

Consmos Group will take this research visit as an opportunity to further deepen its forest certification efforts, continuously add 2-3 international environmental certifications, and expand industry-academia-research collaboration. The company will enhance the role of Consmos Wood Industry—a national high-tech enterprise—as an innovation platform, developing more green building material products that comply with international certification standards.
